Video by @BertieGregory. Extreme climber Alejo Sanchez descends down an enormous rock face deep in the heart of the unexplored Chiribiquete National Park, Colombia. When he reached the bottom of this cliff, he made a remarkable discovery. He found a massive panel of ancient paintings featuring jaguars, people and more. This area is home to many of these paintings, representing some of the earliest evidence of humans in the Amazon. I shot this whilst accompanying a team from Fundacion Herencia, an incredible group of people doing real 21st century exploration. It’s very humbling to know that there are still places on this planet we know almost nothing about. But despite it’s remoteness, it is still under threat. We owe a huge thanks to Parks Colombia and the Colombian Ministry of Culture for their support. For more on this place, Stay tuned for @stevewinterphoto ‘s upcoming jaguar story for @natgeo Magazine. Also stayed tuned for our jaguar TV show for @natgeowild premiering in the US on December 10th. Follow @bertiegregory for more wildlife adventures!

Photo by @max.lowe // The ancient stone figures that stand watch over the tiny island of Rapa Nui, known to much of the world as Easter Island, still represent an anthropological mystery unlike most any other. Although there are many theories as to their origin and meaning, to the people native to Rapa Nui, the stone men embody a concrete and humble reminder that they, and indeed all of us, stand on the shoulders of those who came before. Photo by @CarltonWard // The Econlockhatchee is one of my favorite rivers in Florida. It begins in Orlando and flows east to its confluence with the St. Johns River, which flows northwards (like the Nile) to the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville. Rivers unite and sustain us, while not always seen or appreciated. Both originating in Central Florida, the Evergaldes and St. Johns watersheds encompass the entire length of the Florida peninsula. Please follow @carltonward to see more of my vision for keeping keeping Florida connected and wild. #river #palms #floridawild #keepflwild @fl_wildcorridor @natgeocreative

Essaouira’s history as a vital Moroccan trading port is best captured while walking along the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site of Atlantic seawalls and imposing ramparts. Tikal was a capital of the Maya world in ancient times, and it’s easy to believe when you’re confronted with the thousands of massive pyramids, plazas, temples, and dwellings that remain today. Photo by @FransLanting The best indication that you have earned the trust of wild animals is when they fall asleep in front of you. This is Nickel, a female chimp cradling her newborn baby Teva, while they’re sleeping in a tree in the Fongoli region of southeast Senegal. There are less than 200 chimps left in Senegal and their future hangs in the balance, just like it does for all chimps in Africa. We worked with Nickel and the rest of her family for six weeks, following them on foot through their forest and were able to capture unique behavior never documented before. Follow me @FransLanting to see amazing footage of chimps playing in water. @Natgeocreative @ChristineEckstrom #chimps #africa #senegal #Wildlife #Conservation #Baby #family #Motherhood

Photo by @renan_ozturk // Monster and Washer Woman towers within what seems like infinite layers of @canyonlandsnps geology. I remember doing them both in the same day when I was young and wide-eyed about the adventure of the climbing life. On the summits I added a few drawings in the registers which are rich with history and culture. Just recently I went back and snapped this photo with @chrisburkard and his crew of @snackfarmer @tentides. I have to say that my excitement and appreciation for this place has only grown.

📸 @johnkernickphotography Old Harry Rocks are three chalk formations, including a stack (Old Harry) and a stump, (Old Harry's wife) located at Handfast Point, on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, southern England. They mark the most easterly point of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rocks can be viewed from the Dorset section of the South West Coast Path. The chalk of Old Harry Rocks used to be part of a long stretch of chalk between Purbeck and the Isle of Wight, but remained as a headland after large parts of this seam were eroded away. One of these stacks is known as Old Harry. Old Harry's Wife was another stack which was eroded through corrosion and abrasion, until the bottom was so weak the top fell away, leaving a stump. Hydraulic action is the main cause of erosion (sheer force of the wave) that damaged the rock and caused it to fall away. . . . . . #oldharryrocks #jurassiccoast #isleofpurbeck #johnkernickphotography #dorset #ukcountryside #uk
